An interview with Julian Dollar

What is your overall view of the new GBB scheme and its benefit for the Racing and Breeding Industry ?

I very much welcome the new initiative from the TBA. It unambiguously seeks to target the frailties that were identified in the two economic impact studies commissioned by the TBA, specifically to support small British breeders by making it more financially viable for them to breed, race and own fillies as well as making it ever-more attractive for owners to buy them at the sales.

While the TBA has for some time been trumpeting the benefits of breeding and racing fillies through its " This Filly Can " promotion, only through tangible financial incentives are we able to make a significant impact and effect a real change in mentality.

I believe this scheme, offering multiple £20,000 bonuses, is a great step in the right direction and I welcome what the TBA is actively doing for its members.

Will you change any current practices to take better advantage of the new GBB scheme?

Undoubtedly. We have wrestled for a while over the commercial argument as to whether we are best to race or sell so many of our yearling fillies. Initiatives like this one will certainly help to encourage us to race more of these fillies with the aim of producing them as broodmares for the future.
