What is your overall view of the new GBB scheme and its benefit for the racing and Breeding Industry?

I attended the initial launch at the RAC club last year and I am delighted as a breeder and an owner that the scheme has come to fruition under the hard work of the TBA. It is a meaningful contribution from the TBA to the prospects for small breeders in the UK-maybe their most relevant contribution for quite some time.

It is well conceived, focusing as it does on the UK, fillies and all relevant connections and it is fairly funded.

I am in no doubt that it will encourage potential owners to look to British bred fillies at the sales while, at the same time, it will encourage breeders to retain and run their fillies. This should provide a double benefit to demand (and price) for this stock.

Will you change any current practices to take better advantage of the new GBB scheme?

As I commented at the initial launch, this will absolutely focus my mind as a breeder on using UK based stallions and on breeding more of my stock with a view to retaining fillies rather than selling. In particular, it will help the competitively priced middle distance types I (who in any case have the best residual value) but who, as purely commercial breeders, one somewhat avoided as they were not sought after by the instant gratification orientated market!
