An interview with Jamie Railton

What is your overall view of the new GBB scheme and its benefit for the Racing and Breeding Industry ?

The new scheme has to be the most positive thing that has happened for owners and breeders. It is well thought out and allows mares covered by Irish stallions to come under the scheme. If it can enable breeders to break even and owners to cover training fees then we have a chance of retention for both parties.

Will you change any current practices to take better advantage of the new GBB scheme?

I would think fillies eligible for the bonus now have to make more sense to buyers at yearling sales. If a client has the choice between buying one with the bonus or one without, then the GBB bonus could make their mind up. If it means making that extra bid then the bonus could cover the extra cost.

Our organisation will certainly factor in the bonus into our selection process.
