For more than forty years, Stratford Place Stud has been both a home and source of enormous pleasure for the ever enthusiastic Chris Wright. Set in the beautiful surroundings of Coln St Rogers, Gloucestershire, the stud has become a renowned nursery for producing numerous high class winners and regularly enables the yellow and blue colours of the music mogul to be seen at Royal Ascot. And this is likely to be the case again for the 2020 renewal following the Newmarket victory of the homebred VALPOLICELLA at Newmarket in the Great British Bonus Maiden over 6 furlongs. This was also a landmark occasion for it was the first winner for the new training partnership of Oli and Paul Cole.

I was thrilled for Oli. He came to the stud and specifically chose this filly from the bunch that we showed him. The chance for Group race glory now awaits in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Chris is a stalwart of the racing industry as an owner/breeder. A renowned sponsor in racing, he is also prepared to put his hand up regularly for yearlings in the sale ring, as well as to undertake extensive duties for the sake of the sport. He is currently a Council Member of the Racehorse Owners Association so fully appreciates the importance of self-help schemes to boost much needed prize money levels and to support the British breeding industry . On the subject of the Great British Bonus scheme, he commented

This is a very good scheme, clearly thought out and will focus the attention of British breeders and increase the attraction of GBB fillies in the sale ring.
