Today's victory of BRAZEN BELLE was so appropriate in very many ways. Most importantly, it was a timely win for a passionate owner/breeder with only one mare. It gave electrician Kevin Nicholson a very warm feeling to win the 'Thanks the NHS' median auction fillies race at Beverley, but an even warmer feeling came when he heard that he had won a £20,000 Great British Bonus, for which he will receive £16,000 as owner and £4,000 as breeder. Nicholson enthused..."This is very much needed to pay a few bills! What a great scheme! We'll be trying very hard to win more of these races!"

BRAZEN BELLE is trained by David O'Meara, who has already made it his intention to win another £20,000 GBB race with this filly, for the scheme allows eligible fillies to win multiple bonuses.

BRAZEN BELLE is the fourth foal of Pepper Lane, who was raced by Kevin Nicholson when she won two runnings of the Great St Wilfred's Handicap at Ripon. However, she has not been such a success story at stud so far. One of her foals broke a leg and was destroyed, while the other was sadly without ability. A turn for the better came when her third foal Infinite Grace won twice last year. Breeding with his one mare has been an expensive hobby to date for Kevin Nicholson, but this victory shines a totally different light on the investment.

Pepper Lane is boarded at Richard Lingwood's Norton Grove Stud, where Kevin Nicholson visits every weekend...until the lockdown restrictions started. The Lingwoods were also ecstatic. "This could not have happened to a more deserving person." Rest assured that every Norton Grove client will be fully encouraged to register their filly foals to the GBB scheme in August.
