Smart by name, smart by nature. Placing BLACKBERRY to win her third £20,000 bonus (totalling £60,000 apart from prize money from only four starts) shows the class of the trainer and the toughness of his filly.

Settled in behind for a change, BLACKBERRY won convincingly from a previous GBB bonus winner at Musselburgh. PELEKAI was the first ever winner of a Great British Bonus, but she had to settle for second place today and frustrate Mark Johnston in his quest for a sixth bonus win.

For owner/breeder Simon Chappell, today's win puts enough money into the account to train a couple more of BLACKBERRY's family, who all reside at West Moor Stud with Kate Sigsworth. The GBB scheme has assured at least one owner/breeder's continuing participation in these uncertain times.

Bryan Smart is also the part owner of BLACKBERRY and has nearly exhausted his accolades for his tough filly, but not the GBB scheme, saying: "Every trainer should be buying GBB fillies for their owners! I've bought one already this year and will be looking to get back in again." He is now planning for her fourth bonus win.
