This week, the Great British Bonus(GBB) has been celebrating its successes a year after its launch.

The first ever bonus was awarded to PELEKAI who is trained by Mark Johnston. She had a debut run at Newcastle Racecourse and landed a £10,000 GBBonus for her owner breeder Newsells Park Stud.

Since them GBB has awarded £2.5million to 136 mares and fillies including 25 multiple bonus winners. After 12 months, the current leading filly is DRAGON BONES, owned and trained by Ian Williams. She has won four bonuses and £70,000 for her connections. Other multiple winners include MARTELLO SKY (4 wins), MARADA (3), ANYTHINGFORLOVE (3) and BLACKBERRY (3).

95 of the bonuses have been won on the flat with the top courses being Kempton, Lingfield and Newmarket. Meanwhile 73 jumps GBB races have been won with the most successful course being Cheltenham, Hexham and Market Rasen.

101 breeders have produced bonus winning mares. Mickley Stud, Distillery Stud and Goldford Stud have all bred more than one successful GBB filly.

Of course, the wins wouldn't have happened without the 68 trainers and their yard staff. Ralph Beckett, William Haggas and Karl Burke are among the most successful flat trainers whilst Alan King, Fergal O'Brien and Harry Fry top the table for the Jump trainers.

GBB success wasn't just found on the track. Early sales results suggest that consignors too are finding success for the registered fillies. At the Goffs Premier Sale, GBB registered fillies sold for an average of 40% more than eligible but non-registered fillies. Doncaster Spring Store also presented some promising results with GBB fillies selling for an average of 37% more than their non-registered counterparts.

These are some excellent results after just one year and we look forward to seeing where the next 12 months take us.
