GBB GALLOPS TO £9 MILLION MILESTONE

The Great British Bonus (GBB) has paid out more than £9 million in bonuses since it launched in June 2020 a mere 10 weeks after breaking through the £8 million barrier.

The mare that tipped the scales was the Fergal OBrien-trained HIDDEN BEAUTY who picked up a £5,000 bonus in todays 1.15 Betting Better with Sky Bets Novices Hurdle (10th January 2023) at Doncaster. As an all-sexes race, the Novices Hurdle offered a £10,000 bonus. However, under the terms of the scheme, as HIDDEN BEAUTYs sire, KAPGARDE, stands in France at Haras de la Hetraie, she was entitled to half that amount.

HIDDEN BEAUTYs breeder, Peel Bloodstock, is no stranger to a GBB bonus. Will Kinsey of Peel Bloodstock said: Were delighted to be a part of GBB. Weve had a number of winners now and it makes breeding a winner that little bit more special. Its great to be able to offer our clients fillies and mares who are registered to the scheme. It means particularly if they win a fillies-only race a chance to see returns on their investment. Previously, these fillies would have been overlooked but now buyers are seeking them out.

Since it launched, GBB has paid out more than 650 individual bonuses to 503 fillies and mares, 112 of whom, like HIDDEN BEAUTY, have won more than one. The scheme incentivises and rewards the breeding, buying, and racing of British-bred fillies.

Charlie Newton of GBB said: These milestone announcements have come thick and fast in the past 12 months, but every one is exciting its certainly a super way to start the year! We always knew that GBB could be something fantastic and its great to see the industry has taken hold of the scheme and really run with it. The Horserace Betting Levy Board is the majority funder for the scheme, so were grateful to them for backing us from the start
